Design Module Assessment

Blogging right along..............

I chose this title as it sounds like “moving right along” and that’s what we’ve done in our motor home for a couple of years.  We still travel around from time to time and I do my study online quite successfully.

I’ve inserted photos of the equipment and the resources that I use.  My ‘classroom’ is a different spot every day.

The background is a shot taken at the Cervantes Wind Farm in WA and of course, the motor home to give a clear indication of Blogging right along...............

Here is the revamped version:

Lesson 7 - LA12

This was a very interesting exercise.  I've often looked at signs and thought "have they really looked at that before displaying it?"  Obviously not!!!  Here are my examples of bad fonts:

This is a clothing shop sign and for the past 3 or so years I've been trying to figure out what it all means.  I know what it says, but just exactly what does it mean?

I don't like this sign for two reasons - the printing looks 'home made' and I can't read it properly as I can't get past "now open"

This font has ALWAYS screamed Adams Family to me.  Not only is this font unsuitable for advertising flowers, it's very inappropriate to have 'Funerals' and 'Hospitals' in the one place, let alone one on top of the other.

What an admirable group - the volunteer bushfire brigade.  I hope they all know the code of this message.

It's all very pretty but the font is too big in some spots so it doesn't fit.

AND here are the good ones:

Yep.  I can see them gun slingers ridin' in to town.

And yep, the icecream shop is just down the road!

And I'll have a white with one, 'cause that purple writing makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!

And later on pardners we'll wander down and look at the tulips, providing the weather is good of course.

Golden Valley  Tree Park is in the little south west town of Balingup, WA.  Look it up on the internet; it's theme is scarecrows and it has a yearly event of Small Farm Field Day.  This sign is excellent - straight to the point.

Lesson 6 Designing Layouts

Learning activity 9.
My first layout is the entry page to a website.

My second layout is the newsletter.

The third layout is my business card.

Learning Activity 13 - Poster Design

I chose the 'caged' quote as I could visualise the word 'cage' as the gold bars.

Learning Activity 8 - Grids

2 Magazine articles that adhere to a grid:

The following 2 examples appear very structured but don't strictly adhere to a grid format.

The next 2 examples of grids are a postcard and a packet of hot cross buns.  Apologies for the missing bun; I got hungry doing this exercise!

Learning Activity 7 - 50 apples

50 apples - What?  I've done 100 apples.  Yes, I'm blonde!

Learning Activity 6 - White Space

Although the whitespace is actually blackspace, the impact is great in this first shot.  It has the effect of 'light at the end of the tunnel'.

This next example is from the video Patch Adams, one of my favourite stories.  The doctor's feet stand out in the whitespace so you look at his feet rather than his face.

This third example blows the rule of thirds out of the water - so to speak!  The sky and the water bring the viewers eyes to the middle of of the photo.  The white space is the sky and the water.

Learning Activity 5 - 3 Logos

This is my interpretation of positive/negative space.

Learning Activity 4 - Black Squares

This is my interpretation of the black squares exercise.

Learning Activity 3 - Design

This layout is very busy due to the detail in King Tut's gold and coloured design.

Learning Activity 2 - Design

This is my favourite layout; it's very simple and to the point.

Bit of a late starter

Hmmmmmmmm........
Here I am, ready to start a course that started about 5 weeks ago.  Stressed?  No.  Just prepared to spend a LOT of time at the computer to catch up.

The sunshine looks so inviting. NO.  Get back inside!!!!!!!!!!!!!
